Welcome our NEW Co-Executive Director, Julie!
As we continue to grow and expand our efforts in providing recovery solutions to our community, we need to grow and expand our team to get the work done.
That’s why we are thrilled to introduce you to our new Co-Executive Director, Julie Kons!
Julie comes to us with a wealth of experience, a passion for helping others and a dedication to our mission of providing the best possible recovery services to our clients. We couldn’t be more excited to have her join us on this journey, and we wanted to take a moment to tell you a little more about her so you can get acquainted.
Background & Experience
With 21 years of experience in nonprofit management, Julie has already proven herself as a dedicated and knowledgeable professional in the field. Julie’s expertise will undoubtedly be an invaluable asset to our team as we continue to provide the high-quality services that our clients have come to expect from us.
Beyond her professional qualifications, Julie is passionate for recovery and what organizations such as Unity Recovery Services can do for people. She understands the importance of compassion, empathy and support in the recovery journey, and her commitment to making a positive impact aligns perfectly with our core values.
Julie also comes to our team with lived experience in the journey to recovery. In her early 20s, Julie made the decision to choose sobriety and even enjoyed a sober wedding with her husband – also in recovery. They both stayed sober for 11 years; as their kids grew up and they matured they decided to participate in drinking alcohol responsibly. Then, her position was downsized and her career took an unexpected turn – sending her into a spiral with her drinking. “I really had to rethink who I was because my work was my identity – my drinking really got out of control,” she said. She started back on a recovery journey and is now 1 year sober, and counting.
In Julie’s Words
In her own words, Julie shares their enthusiasm about joining Unity Recovery Services:
“I am incredibly excited to be a part of the Unity Recovery Services team. I’ve always admired the organization’s commitment to helping individuals and their families on their journey to recovery. I look forward to working alongside the dedicated and talented professionals here and contributing to our collective mission of making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
What I love to do is talk. I’ve got a lot of connections in the community and I like to go out and tell people what we’re doing, how can you be part of what’s going on and make a difference in people’s lives.”
Outside of Work
Julie is married with 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren, all who live close so the group is able to spend lots of time together. She also has two cats, named Maggie Mae and Presley Jane.
She also serves on two boards: the Oshkosh Food Co-Op, which deals with food insecurity; and Lakeland Care Inc, which serves elders and adults with disabilities. Julie also recently became certified in Tai Chi, so check out the YMCA class schedule to take a class with this new instructor.
Welcome Julie
Please join us in giving Julie a warm welcome to our team. We’re eager to see the positive impact they will undoubtedly bring to our organization and to the lives of those we assist on their path to recovery.
Stay tuned for more updates and insights from Julie as they settle into their role and share their experiences with us. Together, we can look forward to even greater achievements in our commitment to helping those on the path to recovery.
Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to the exciting journey ahead!
